Slicers are a very important element of Power BI, So let's explore more on it.



Slicers are the type of canvas visual filter, with the inclusion of Slicers in our Power BI, reports can be filtered and sorted, and end-users can analyze the required information. Slicers are different than filters which are presented on canvas as a visual on the report and allow users to do their required selection of values for better analysis. For example, you have a report which has the user's name and type of items owners, and you want to filter the user's on the basis of item owners. In the below Report it can be easily seen that.





Need of Slicer in Power BI

A lot of things can be done by using Slicer in Power BI. A few of them are mentioned below:

  • Frequent access of visuals by putting filters with the help of slicers.
  • Slicers give us very focused reports, and essential charts and graphs.
  • Instead of using drop-down slicers provides us more easy selection.
  • Hide unnecessary things on the report but can be accessed if required.

Slicer Creation in Power BI

Below are the steps-

Step 1: Open Power BI Desktop, start creating a new report or Open any existing reports. In the visualization pane select slicer and drag on the canvas.






Step 2: Now drag any field from the table (at the right side), which you want to put on the slicer.



Step 3: In the format option, slicers can be formatted.
